Miles: 2125 probably…. I don't remember
I'm a little over the damn drama in my life. I swear to all that is good, I DO NOT look for drama. I do NOT invite drama into my life. I do NOT enjoy drama, at all. I actually hate surprises. Surprises rarely, if ever, turn out well for me. But again, like every other bloody day in my life, DRAMA just ERUPTS in my life.
Today was supposed to be the day that we went to Phoenix for a posh lunch with DQ's buddy from her childhood. Today was supposed to be the day Grumpy spent the day with Jo for one more day before we headed to Tombstone tomorrow and Cali Thursday. Today was supposed to be a fairly relaxed, enjoyable and paced day. That did NOT happen.
This morning, instead of walking dogs individually, the pack was sent out together with DQ to run and do their business before a long day in the truck while Grumpy and I went to put some diesel in Jubi. Grumpy and I get back to find DQ standing in the middle of the area we dropped the 5 of them screaming "bring the truck." Turns out the four idiots ran off, she couldn't keep up with them. So I started out on foot, again, to hunt them all down. Luce was found immediately but decided to literally run every time she was called. She finally came back to the truck after about an hour of me hunting the others.
Jackrabbit we found just after hour 2. He was wondering about 3 miles from where he was originally supposed to be. He looked exhausted and took a little coaxing to get back into the truck. After finding him, we hoped my two would be nearby. Upon hour 3, DQ figured out that we needed to get a little food and water in us so I could go back out and search some more.
I walked from the highway near where we dropped everyone, to the spot they were dropped, all the way back to the native reservation about 5 miles from the drop site. I walked through the wooded/creek area to find them. I whistled and called for hours. I actually found some of their tracks and started following them. If I wasn't so worried and scared I would have been super proud of myself. I could distinguish Lil's feet and Roo's feet with little difficulty. I could even tell where Lil had been digging, probably chasing those little rodent looking things that ran all over the area. By the end of hour 4, DQ and Grumpy picked me up in the truck in the rez so we could check the farmlands near the plant. This local lady told us all these horror stories about pitt rings and fights and stolen dogs…. DQ was in tears but I kept searching and asking around.
We drove back towards the original drop site so I could start again when I spotted her…. There was a little black dog standing in a pool of water right on the road next to the rez. Exactly where we'd been searching for hours. Exactly where they picked me up to go to the back roads. Fifty meters towards civilization from where I'd been following their tracks. The hydrant had been opened for them and two little boys were talking to Roo while Lil laid in the puddle. I've never been so grateful for anything in my life. I couldn't even be mad about them taking off. I was just scared and upset and wrought with emotion. I didn't even care that my dress was covered in mud when I picked each of them up.
We brought the lot of them home. Lil and Roo had to have baths because they were just so filthy. I've noticed Lil isn't quite right. I swear up and down they had to have been abducted by aliens or something. Lil hasn't stopped shaking since we found them. They are both exhausted and panting like they'll never cool off. I don't know what they've been through, but I'm glad they are home. We have a new rule, no one touches my dogs but me. I don't know what happened, but I would like to think if Lil could actually hear me and get to me, she would have come in the 4.5 hours I was walking and calling for her.
I'm off to curl up with my furry babies. I'm over this missing drama shit…. We went on a nice (leashed) walk around the famcamp. Watched sunset fall before I took them back to go rest on the top bunk. I'm hoping they will both be a little more L&M normal tomorrow.
Hope everyone has a good evening.
I miss you, even when you aren't really gone.
I love you, cos I can.
Goodnight!
