Just a small town girl living out her wildest dreams. With a heavy pen and a heart full of fantasy, this is my journey.

I have a new idea to life, so you better get a front row seat to get a good view.

Day 23

Day 23
February 9, 2015

Miles: 3051

Okay! I know what I wanna focus on first, but I have to be fair and start from the top...

We drove from the desert this morning, through the sand dunes into the mountains and finally onto this GORGEOUS island!!

The dunes were quite spectacular!!

The sky had a brilliant blue shade and I can honestly say I was impressed with all that sand.  Never thought I'd say that....

Next were the mountains.... Holy shit!  The mountains themselves were a sight to behold but driving up into them is probably the most TERRIFYING experience I've had driving.  DQ was too busy sideseat driving to snap photos for me so y'all can't see our point of view, but in all seriousness, if you EVER get the opportunity to drive I-8 from Yuma to San Diego, TAKE IT!!! It's the most inspiring trip.  The views are miraculous and it shows the drive of the human spirit to create these paths through these treacherous cliffs and rock piles 4000ft above sea level!  No joke.  You go from sea level to 4160ft and back to 1000ft and then back up to 4200ft in less than 8 miles.  Pulling our trailer? It's brutal!  (If anyone wants to volunteer advice and/or lessons on mountain driving while hauling, I'd greatly appreciate it!!)

We finally get to Coronado Island and Whoop is this place wonderful!  It reminds me of home in Galveston, except it's much nicer here. Ha!  Hotel fel Coronado is only a couple miles up the beach from us!
The history in this area..... le sigh..... I'm loving California more and more every minute!  Our view is so peaceful.

Finally!!!! Marine came to visit tonight and brought the Non-Brat with him.  Such a sweet guy!!! I have missed Marine SOOO friggin' much!!! And now that he's a marine he's even more handsome than before!  And Non-Brat is a doll! Handsome and so polite!!!  They were there for dinner but I owe them so much more.  Tonight was the first time Grumpy has been lucid and clear with his speech.  He and the boys talked for hours about life in the corp and all kinds of war stories.  It was fun for me to watch them carry on.  But man it touched my heart that Grumpy was actually engaged and enjoying himself.  Marine and Non-Brat are officially the greatest for humoring him and making him happy.  He was hell bent on making life pretty miserable for DQ and myself because he wanted to go home... But now after talking with them, he's excited to see them again and now he wants to go see the Redwoods!! I just.... I'm so grateful for the boys.... I'll feed them every day I can for what they did for him.  Love them!!

Oh and my dinner turned out pretty well.
There wasn't much left over so I GUES they all loved it.  Granted I did send the boys back to the barracks with a HEB bag full of food.

My heart is full.  I got an AMAZING hug that was much needed and LONG OVERDUE!

We are moving up state a bit tomorrow so I guess I should sleep.

I love you cos you give the BEST hugs!!

I miss you every single day!!

Goodnight

Xx
